Govt Higher Primary School in Vittla Leads the Way in Digital Education
The Government Higher Primary School, located near Maji in Vittla, has become a beacon of digital education, with every classroom from LKG to grade 8 equipped with smart TVs. This modern facility is not only enhancing the learning experience but also contributing to a surge in student enrolment, which has now exceeded 200 students.
The transformation of the school began in 2018 when alumnus Santosh Shetty Arebettu adopted the school, reversing a trend of declining enrolments. With the help of alumni and local community contributions, including those from organisations like Lions and Rotary, the school has managed to integrate advanced technology and improve its infrastructure.
Benedicta Mendonca, a key figure in the school’s progress, shared that the integration of visual learning through PowerPoint presentations and internet resources has significantly enhanced student comprehension. “The use of smart TVs allows students to learn visually, making lessons more engaging and interactive. This is one of the few government schools in the district to offer such a facility,” she said.
With a total of 268 students and 11 smart classrooms, the school is setting a strong precedent for accessible digital learning, even in rural areas. Mendonca highlighted the importance of smart TVs and the support from donors in driving the school’s success, ensuring that every child benefits from quality education.
The innovative approach at the school exemplifies how technology can improve education, particularly in underserved regions.
