The foot pilgrimage to Mudipu Church, undertaken with deep devotion and reverence, beautifully reflected the sanctity of faith. The event was carried out in a disciplined and orderly manner, highlighting respect and devotion to the sacred cause. Mudipu, a renowned pilgrimage center, attracted many devotees from neighboring towns, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

U T Khader, the speaker, shared that Mudipu Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. He assured that the government would extend full support to the church’s religious programs, recognizing its significance as a beacon of holiness in the region.

As part of the silver jubilee celebrations of St Joseph Vaz Shrine, Mudipu, a Grand Marathon Foot Pilgrimage titled “Namma Nadige Mudipu Punya Kshetrada Kadege” was organized under the leadership of the Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh South Zone. The event was welcomed at Derlakatte, where U T Khader addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of the pilgrimage for spiritual growth and unity.

Alwyn D’Souza, speaking at the event, noted that the pilgrimage was undertaken with faith and unity, with the hope that visiting the Holy Land in the sacred year of 2025 would bring divine blessings. Priests and devotees from 10 churches, including those from distant places like Mulki, participated in the 15-km-long walk from Panir Church to Mudipu Church.

Retired Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of the Mangaluru Diocese imparted his blessings, while Fr Victor D’Mello of Panir Church inaugurated the program. The event also saw the presence of dignitaries such as MCC Bank president Anil Lobo, former president Rally D’Costa, Mangaluru Catholic Diocese former secretary M P Noronha, and others.

The pilgrimage walk saw thousands of participants, including elderly individuals who have been part of the event for the past four years. One of the most heartwarming aspects of the pilgrimage was the display of communal harmony, with Hindu and Muslim brethren welcoming the devotees with sweets and refreshments.
