Mangaluru: In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, public awareness about food safety is gradually diminishing. Despite the well-known saying “health is wealth,” increasing time constraints have led to a growing dependence on packaged and fast food.

To address this concern, the Department of Commerce, in collaboration with Jagruthi Consumer Club, organized a guest lecture on “Safe Food – Healthy Life,” aimed at educating students about food safety.

Srividya B, an assistant professor of commerce at Besant Evening College, Mangaluru, served as the keynote speaker. She conducted an engaging session, explaining different forms of food adulteration and essential precautions while consuming packaged food. She also enlightened students about legal provisions available to combat food adulteration.

The event was presided over by IQAC coordinator Dr. Therese Pereira, who, in her address, urged students to stay vigilant against adulterated food and maintain good health by minimizing junk food consumption.

Also present on the dais were student welfare officer Dr. Santhosh Pinto and IQAC co-coordinator Jyothi Shetty. The program commenced with a warm welcome by Dhanushree (III BCom), followed by an interactive session. Harsha (II BCom) expressed gratitude through the vote of thanks, while Shreya (III BCom) efficiently compered the event.
