Mangaluru: The Mangaluru Chapter of INTACH, in collaboration with Art Kanara Trust, is set to honour iconic filmmaker Guru Dutt on his birth centenary with a panel discussion titled “Guru Dutt – Remembering the Man and His Persona, Movies and Messages”. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the Kodialguthu Centre for Art and Culture, Ballalbagh.

Open to all cinema enthusiasts, the evening promises a heartfelt tribute to a director whose films still resonate with audiences and critics alike.

The panel includes:

  • K. Phaniraj, noted writer and activist

  • Ivan D’Silva, member of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy

  • Jayanth Kodkani, writer and former Associate Editor at The Times of India

  • Subhas Chandra Basu, Convener of INTACH Mangaluru Chapter, will introduce and moderate the discussion.

    Born Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone on July 9, 1925, Guru Dutt is remembered for cinematic masterpieces like Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. Known for his poetic storytelling and visual flair, his work remains deeply influential. With ancestral roots in Panambur, near Mangaluru, this centenary celebration holds special relevance for coastal Karnataka.
