In the wake of mounting unrest in coastal Karnataka, senior Congress leader and MLC B K Hariprasad addressed media in Mangaluru regarding the spate of resignations tendered by several Muslim Congress leaders in Dakshina Kannada.

Clarifying that his visit was part of regular political engagements, Hariprasad urged the resigned members to reconsider, stating, “These are challenging times, but we must remain strong. I came to communicate with our people, not to conduct formal meetings.”

Dismissing rumours about being assigned a regional leadership role, he emphasized, “The Chief Minister’s visit was purely a courtesy call. Let’s not allow Mangaluru to descend into chaos like Manipur.”

He highlighted that while peace persists across most of Karnataka, the coastal region’s unrest is alarming. Drawing comparisons, he said, “This isn’t UP or Manipur, where innocent lives are lost. Authorities have admitted to momentary lapses but assured control.”

Calling for calm, Hariprasad urged party workers to stay committed to democratic values and not to give in to extremist thinking. “Those who resigned acted out of emotion. We request them to return. We can’t afford to lose even one committed member,” he said.

He acknowledged public frustration, stating, “Yes, if we’re in power and fail to act, it’s fair to face criticism. But our ideology remains firm.”

On the RCB victory stampede, Hariprasad remarked, “RCB is a private venture of billionaires. While the CM will address the issue, the owners should give at least ₹1 crore each to the victims’ families.”
