An Instagram account with roughly 1,650 followers, notorious for sharing inflammatory material, has been disabled. This action follows the killing of Suhas Shetty, a case overseen by the Bajpe Police in Mangaluru. The account, operating under the handle team_karna_surathkal, was actively disseminating divisive posts designed to spark hostility and unlawful behavior between different religious and community groups.
According to Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, a formal complaint was filed against the account at Surathkal Police Station. The investigation was soon transferred to the Cyber Crime (CEN) unit in Mangaluru. Law enforcement coordinated with relevant digital platforms to initiate removal of the page. Acting on these communications, authorities succeeded in disabling the page within India.
Senior officers including DCPs Siddharth Goyal and Ravishankar, under the direction of Commissioner Agrawal, are continuing to monitor the situation. CEN Police are actively pursuing additional leads in the case.
In a related incident, a complaint has been lodged at Surathkal station against a Facebook account bearing the name of former corporator Shwetha Poojary. The account is accused of posting messages intended to instigate communal discord. One controversial post questioned the identity of women wearing burqas, implying retaliatory intent. Another reportedly insulted District-in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
The vice-president of the Congress Women’s Wing from Mangaluru North Assembly has claimed the posts aimed to mislead the public and provoke social unrest.
