In a tragic turn of events, K M Sajjad Ali (45), a real estate businessman from Bengaluru, drowned while rescuing his niece from the sea at Someshwar Beach on Sunday afternoon.

The incident unfolded when Sajjad’s niece was caught in strong waves while playing near the shore. Sajjad heroically entered the water and managed to save her, but he was overpowered by the waves. Though brought to shore, he passed away en route to a hospital in Deralakatte.

Sajjad, a resident of HPK Road, Shivajinagar, had traveled with 10 family members to attend a wedding in Padil. After the ceremony, the family visited Someshwar Beach, where the tragedy occurred.

Married to Aleema Rasheeda, Sajjad lived in Bengaluru for 11 years before relocating to Puttur four years ago. He is survived by his mother Sajida Begum, wife Aleema, and children Kaira Faiza, Hamzan Ali, and Hussain Ali.

The selfless act that cost Sajjad his life underscores the importance of beach safety and the risks of venturing into rough waters.
