Mangaluru: In a meaningful stride towards long-term recovery and rehabilitation, HIF India on Sunday handed over five newly constructed homes to families affected by the devastating Wayanad landslide. This effort is part of the organisation’s ongoing housing mission, Project Ashiyana.
The 2020 landslide, which claimed over 200 lives and rendered more than 1,000 families homeless, prompted an immediate humanitarian response. HIF India was one of the first organisations on the ground, offering emergency relief and planning sustainable solutions, said Rizwan Pandeshwar, executive member of the NGO.
The key handover ceremony was led by Adil Parvez, president of HIF India, and attended by community leaders, donors, and beneficiaries. Present at the event were Rizwan Pandeshwar, SM Farook, Abdur Reham Faizy Ustad, Abdullah Kutty Baqavi Ustad, and Kunchi Ahmed.
Each new house, built on five cents of land, spans 750 sq. ft., featuring two bedrooms and basic amenities. The homes aim to offer safety, dignity, and a fresh start to those who lost everything.
These five units add to the 30 houses previously completed under Project Ashiyana in various affected locations. HIF India acknowledged the generous support of donors, volunteers, and well-wishers, whose contributions helped transform this vision into reality.
