A housemaid allegedly swindled her employer out of Rs 7.5 lakh in cash and a diamond necklace valued at Rs 3 lakh by fabricating an income tax raid. Juliet, from Perampalli Road in Shivalli village, had hired Sunita four months ago. During this time, Juliet shared personal struggles, including marital issues, with Sunita, who suggested divorce as a solution.
On October 29, Sunita, accompanied by a man named Stany, informed Juliet that “IT officials” were conducting a raid at her house. Believing the story, Juliet opened her locker as Sunita instructed. Sunita took Rs 9 lakh in cash and the diamond necklace, placing Rs 1.5 lakh in Juliet’s bag and assuring her that the rest, along with the necklace, would be returned after the raid.
Realizing she had been tricked, Juliet reported the incident to the Manipal police, who are now investigating.
