In the wake of the brutal killing of Hindutva supporter and noted rowdy sheeter Suhas Shetty, Mangaluru Police have clamped prohibitory measures throughout the city starting Friday, lasting until May 6. The move comes amid growing unrest.

The murder occurred Thursday night around 8:30 pm near Kinnipadavu Cross under Bajpe police limits. Suhas Shetty was accompanied by five aides—Sanjay, Prajwal, Anvith, Latheesh, and Shashank—when their vehicle was ambushed. A group of six men, traveling in a Swift car and a pickup truck, launched a sudden attack, striking Shetty with lethal weapons and inflicting critical injuries.

Though rushed to AJ Hospital, he was declared dead soon after. Authorities have filed a case of murder and are actively hunting for the attackers. Preliminary leads suggest a planned execution, though the precise reason behind the killing is still being investigated.

Shetty was not new to controversy. He had five criminal cases against him, including one in the high-profile 2022 killing of Mohammed Fazil, which had already sparked regional tension. His affiliations have made his murder a highly sensitive matter.

To prevent communal flare-ups, City Police Commissioner and Additional District Magistrate Anupam Agrawal enforced curbs under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Public events, demonstrations, and possession of potential weapons have been strictly forbidden.

Tensions simmer as Bajrang Dal announced a city-wide bandh, with minor disturbances reported. Police have strengthened security and intensified patrols to maintain calm.
