The Mangaluru City Police have filed a case in response to the Bajpe Chalo demonstration held on Sunday. Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal confirmed that activists from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal led the rally titled Bajpe Chalo, staged near Sharada Mantap in Bajpe.
Protesters demanded that the inquiry into the killing of Suhas Shetty be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). However, authorities stated that the organisers failed to seek prior approval for the gathering.
Roughly 3,000 individuals joined the protest, which took place between 3 PM and 5 PM. Participants unlawfully gathered in and around the Bajpe Bus Stand, blocking main routes and portions of State Highway 67. This led to serious disruption in traffic flow and limited public access to key entry and exit points.
According to officials, one of the speakers delivered an inflammatory speech that could provoke communal tensions and threaten public harmony, with specific references to the Suhas Shetty incident.
In light of these violations, the Bajpe Police have booked the organisers and speakers under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – including 189(2), 191(2), 192, 285, 190, 351(2), and 351(3) – in addition to Sections 107 and 109 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963.
Legal action is now underway, and investigations into the event and its impact on law and order continue.
