Father Muller Medical College, located in Mangalore, has taken a significant step in advancing medical education by hosting its inaugural Continuing Medical Education (CME) workshop focused on autoimmune disorders. Organised by the Department of Microbiology in collaboration with CPC Diagnostics from Chennai, the workshop was designed to raise awareness and deepen understanding of autoimmune conditions, an area of healthcare that has gained increasing attention in recent years. The event successfully aimed to bridge the knowledge gaps faced by medical professionals in diagnosing and managing these complex disorders.
The workshop commenced with a serene prayer song, which set a reflective and respectful tone for the proceedings. The Masters of Ceremony for the day were Dr. Rose M D’Souza, Assistant Professor, and Ms. Swathi Panagal, Lecturer from the Department of Microbiology. Their engaging presentation style helped maintain an interactive atmosphere, encouraging active participation from the attendees.
Dr. Thomas S K, Professor and Organising Secretary of the event, welcomed the gathering with an inspiring address. He underscored the increasing prevalence of autoimmune disorders and the importance of continuous medical education in equipping healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge and skills to effectively confront these challenges.
The formal inauguration of the workshop was graced by Chief Guest Ms. Srimika Khismatrao, Group Product Manager of CPC Diagnostics, who performed the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. In her address, Ms. Khismatrao articulated the critical role of continuous learning in the medical field, particularly in the face of evolving healthcare challenges. She highlighted the 12-year partnership between CPC Diagnostics and Father Muller Medical College, underscoring the commitment of both organisations to advancing diagnostic technology to meet the growing medical demands.
Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), presided over the function. His address resonated with the audience as he emphasised the evolution of diseases and the corresponding advancements in the medical field’s ability to combat them. He stressed the necessity of timely diagnosis and reporting in ensuring effective patient care, a theme that was echoed throughout the workshop.
The workshop featured a lineup of expert resource persons who provided invaluable insights into various aspects of autoimmune conditions. Among them were Dr. Michelle Fernandes, Professor in the Department of Dermatology; Dr. Manjunath J, Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology; and Dr. Sahana Baliga, Assistant Professor in the Department of Rheumatology. Their presentations covered a range of topics, including the latest diagnostic techniques and management strategies for autoimmune disorders, making the sessions highly informative and relevant for all attendees.
The event fostered an engaging environment where participants could interact with the speakers, ask questions, and delve deeper into the complexities of autoimmune disorders. As the workshop drew to a close, Dr. Anup K Shetty, Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Joint Organising Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks.
