An Instagram page titled team_karna_surathkal, known for sharing inflammatory content, has been taken down after it allegedly incited communal tension following the recent murder of Suhas Shetty under Bajpe Police Station limits in Mangaluru.

The page, with around 1,650 followers, had been posting material aimed at sowing discord between religious communities, said City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal. In response, a case was filed at the Surathkal Police Station, and the matter was handed over to the Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station for deeper investigation.

Following coordination with the relevant enforcement agency, the controversial Instagram account was successfully deactivated and blocked in India, ensuring it is no longer accessible.

The probe is being supervised by Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, along with DCPs Siddharth Goyal and Ravishankar, while the CEN unit continues to investigate related digital trails.

Meanwhile, a separate complaint has been lodged against a Facebook account bearing the name of former corporator Shwetha Poojary. The complaint alleges that hate-inciting posts were made from the account, including one that targeted burqa-clad women in Bajpe and another that used abusive language against Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Congress Mangaluru North Assembly constituency women’s wing vice-president, in her complaint, asserted that such posts were aimed at disrupting social harmony and spreading falsehoods.
