Mangaluru: MLC Ivan D’Souza has urged authorities to implement alternative traffic arrangements before starting the ₹69 crore Nanthoor flyover project. Speaking at a press conference in the new MCC office, he stated that while the tender process is complete, construction should only begin after ensuring smooth traffic flow to avoid public inconvenience.
“Nanthoor Circle is a critical high-traffic zone. Without concrete alternative routes, chaos is inevitable. I have already discussed this with NHAI officials, and the DC must take immediate action,” he said. The flyover will connect Mallikatta Road and Bikkarnakatta Road, with an underpass for vehicles on the national highway.
D’Souza criticized the local corporator for a lack of awareness about the project’s execution and called for a public grievance meeting to address concerns.
During the 145th Karnataka Legislative Council session, D’Souza raised key development issues for Dakshina Kannada. He revealed that the Coastal Development Authority will transition into the Coastal Region Development Board by May 2025, receiving ₹250 crore annually for tourism projects. Additionally, a ₹5 lakh grant was assured for every Kambala event, ₹10 crore to clear retired Mangaluru University lecturers’ dues, and ₹400 crore for Paschima Vahini irrigation projects.
He also announced the introduction of four government buses on the Mangaluru-Moodbidri-Karkala route, with plans for four more under the Shakti scheme to improve public transport in the district.
