Jharkhand Labourer Killed as Rice-Laden Lorry Overturns in Bantwal
Bantwal – In a tragic accident on Friday morning, a labourer lost his life after a rice-loaded lorry overturned near SVS College in Bantwal.
The victim has been identified as Nirmala Anstha (32), hailing from Jharkhand. The driver of the vehicle, Sujith, and the cleaner, Simohan Murmu, fortunately escaped the mishap without any injuries.
According to reports, the lorry was transporting a consignment of rice from Udupi to Moodbidri, and was on its way to Bantwal when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to intense rainfall, leading to it overturning on the roadside.
Nirmala, who was reportedly sitting on the rice sacks in the rear section of the vehicle, was thrown out as the lorry flipped. He sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot before any help could arrive.
Police authorities, led by Bantwal traffic sub-inspector Suthesh, reached the accident site promptly. A case has been formally registered and further investigation into the incident is underway.
This unfortunate event underscores the hazards faced by labourers who often travel in unsafe conditions. Local authorities are likely to review transport safety norms, especially during heavy rains, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Residents in the area have expressed concern over increasing accidents during monsoon and are urging stricter enforcement of road safety measures.
