Kalladka flyover finally opens, easing traffic and bringing coastal relief
The much-delayed Kalladka flyover along National Highway 75 has officially been opened to commuters, promising a major reprieve for motorists between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. This significant structure, a key part of the highway’s four-lane upgrade, had faced repeated setbacks since construction kicked off in 2017, owing to issues like land disputes and slow execution.
With the successful placement of girders and the completion of drainage installations, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has cleared the route for vehicular movement. Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta, who actively monitored the progress, remarked that this development will cut travel time and boost road safety on the crucial intercity corridor.
In addition to the flyover, two long-awaited vehicular underpasses at Mani and Uppinangady—which were often rendered unusable during the monsoon due to water stagnation—are now set to open for public use starting Thursday. These underpasses are expected to streamline traffic and prevent seasonal disruptions.
Further addressing flood-prone zones, the NHAI is constructing a pipe culvert near Thumbe (B.C. Road) to enhance drainage and prevent monsoon-related bottlenecks.
The four-laning work between Addahole and Periyashanthi is nearly 95% done, while about 86% has been completed on the Periyashanthi to B.C. Road stretch. Authorities aim to wrap up the remaining sections by year-end, with the entire project slated to be fully functional by 2026.
This milestone is set to improve logistics, support regional trade, and offer safer, faster passage along the vital highway.
