As part of the Karnataka Suvarna Sambhrama golden jubilee celebrations marking 50 years since the state was renamed, the Bahusamskrithi Utsava (Multicultural Festival) will take place at Kudumal Ranga Rao Town Hall in Mangaluru on January 17. The event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

This unique festival is being organized collaboratively by several prestigious language academies, including the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Arebhashe Academy, and Yakshagana Academy. The event is also supported by the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu district administrations, as well as the Mangaluru City Corporation, said Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan M P.

Book stalls featuring the publications of these language academies will be set up, with District-in-Charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao inaugurating them. Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj S Tangadagi will be the chief guest at the event.

The festival will showcase vibrant cultural performances from the Tulu, Beary, Konkani, and Arebhashe Academies, while the Yakshagana Academy will present a traditional Kannada Yakshagana performance, “Sridevi Bhuvaneshwari”.

In addition, students from the district will participate in competitions such as drawing, elocution, group songs, and short film writing, with prizes awarded during the closing ceremony. Winners will share their insights on “The contribution of sister language communities to Karnataka.”

Initially scheduled for December, the festival was postponed due to Cyclone Fengal’s impact on the region. The Utsava promises to be a celebration of Karnataka’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
