Keep Mangaluru Clean: Tulasi Maddineni Urges Action Against Public Waste Dumping
Mangaluru: Tulasi Maddineni, the in-charge secretary of Dakshina Kannada, has called upon officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to take immediate and effective measures to keep the city clean by preventing the dumping of garbage in public areas.
Speaking at an event hosted by the MCC on Tuesday—aimed at promoting the installation of the Mangaluru Smart City app among solid waste collectors—Maddineni expressed concern over the current state of sanitation in the city.
Reflecting on her earlier tenure in Mangaluru nearly a decade ago, she said the city was far cleaner back then, with minimal garbage dumping in public spots. “When Akshy Sridhar served as the commissioner between August 2020 and February 2023, cleanliness in public areas was maintained up to 98%. But now, I notice a significant increase in black spots where waste is irresponsibly discarded,” she remarked.
She emphasized the importance of leveraging technology—such as the Smart City app—to improve waste management and track problem areas in real time. Maddineni urged both officials and citizens to take responsibility and work collectively to restore Mangaluru’s reputation as a clean and livable city.
