Mangaluru: A seven-member KPCC fact-finding delegation arrived in Mangaluru on Thursday to examine the recent spike in communal incidents across Dakshina Kannada. Appointed by KPCC president DK Shivakumar, the team aims to assess the ground realities and recommend corrective measures.
The delegation includes MP Syed Naseer Hussain, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, MLA NA Haris, AICC secretary Roji M John, KPCC vice-president VR Sudarshan, former minister Kimmane Ratnakar, and former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde.
They convened a meeting with senior Congress leaders and elected representatives at the Congress Bhavan in Mallikatte. During the interaction, local leaders raised concerns over recent communal murders, hate speeches, and inflammatory social media content, accusing authorities of inadequate enforcement and delayed responses.
The delegation took note of these issues and discussed the need for legal and policy-level interventions to safeguard the region’s communal harmony. Recommendations included tighter enforcement and legislative amendments to deter such activities in the future.
Later, the team visited the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where they met in-charge DC Anandh K and held further discussions with top police officials to better understand the administrative and policing challenges in managing communal disturbances.
