KSRTC Conductor Arrested After Viral Video Shows Sexual Harassment on Bus
A contract conductor working with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has been arrested after a disturbing video of him allegedly sexually harassing a woman passenger on board a public bus surfaced online.
The accused, Pradeep Kashappa Naikar (35) from Bagalkote, was taken into custody by the Konaje police on Thursday, following outrage sparked by the viral footage. The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday on a KSRTC bus operating the Mudipu–State Bank route near Mangaluru.
The video, filmed discreetly by a fellow commuter, allegedly shows Naikar misbehaving with a woman passenger who appeared to be asleep. Once circulated, the video drew sharp criticism on social media, prompting a swift response from the police.
Following a preliminary investigation, a case was registered, and Naikar was formally arrested. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the complete circumstances of the case.
As of now, KSRTC has not issued an official statement regarding the incident or the current employment status of the accused.
This incident has once again raised serious concerns about women’s safety in public transport, especially when operated by trusted state-run services. Citizens and activists have urged KSRTC to implement stricter background checks and swift disciplinary action in such cases.
