Mangaluru: In a rare initiative to foster interfaith harmony, the Kudroli Jamia Mosque in Mangaluru will open its doors to the public on September 14 under a programme titled Masjid Darshan. People of all faiths — including women — will be welcomed from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., according to mosque committee president K.M. Ashraf.
Promoting openness and understanding
Organisers said the initiative coincides with the birth month of Prophet Muhammad and reflects his message of openness and inclusivity.
“Mosques, the Quran, namaz, and the azaan are less visible in the larger Indian social fabric. This has naturally led to curiosity and misconceptions. By opening the mosque, we aim to create understanding,” Ashraf explained.
Community-led effort
The event is being coordinated jointly by the Kudroli Jamia Mosque management, Muslim Ekta Vedike Kudroli, and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. Leaders across communities, including MPs, MLAs, and religious heads, are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony.
What visitors can expect
During Masjid Darshan, visitors will be able to observe mosque activities, interact with committee members, and ask questions to gain clarity about Islamic traditions. Organisers emphasised that the event aims to break stereotypes and bridge gaps between communities.
“This is a chance for the public to see and understand rather than assume,” they added.
