Jokatte – A minor landslip took place near the Jokatte Gram Panchayat late Thursday night following persistent and intense rainfall. The incident became known by Friday morning and triggered safety concerns for nearby residents.

The slide impacted the rear side of a hill situated close to the residence of a local named Abdullah. The shifting earth compromised the structural safety of his house, placing it under significant threat.

In response to the situation, Abdullah’s family, along with occupants of nearby homes located at the base of the hill, were moved out as a preventive step. This evacuation was carried out to avert any casualties or property damage in case of further ground movement.

Authorities from the local Gram Panchayat visited the affected site promptly and conducted an inspection. To curb further erosion, a protective tarpaulin cover was installed over the exposed slope. Villagers also pitched in to support efforts to reinforce the hill and reduce the risk of subsequent landslides.

Local officials confirmed that, as of now, the area is stable and under control. However, with more rainfall expected, residents have been asked to remain alert and follow any further safety instructions.

The incident is part of a broader pattern of weather-related disruptions across the coastal region due to the ongoing monsoon.
