A 58-year-old farmer, Ligori Pereira, was attacked by a leopard while cutting grass early Sunday morning in Elathur, near Kinnigoli on the outskirts of Mangaluru. The attack left Ligori with facial injuries, though he managed to escape and was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Residents in the Elathur area have been on high alert for the past week following several reports of leopard sightings. The recent attack has heightened fears among the local farming community, who rely on the fields for their livelihood. Concerned villagers are now appealing to the forest department to intervene and capture the leopard to ensure safety.
The region, home to a significant number of farmers, remains tense as authorities consider the next steps.
