Mangaluru: A young leopard, estimated to be between 8 to 12 months old, was found dead after being electrocuted in a well at Mannabettu in Mulki taluk.
According to Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) P Sridhar, the cub is believed to have wandered into the area late Sunday night, likely in search of pet dogs. While roaming near a house, it is suspected that the animal accidentally fell into a nearby well.
The tragic discovery was made Monday morning when the household switched on their motor pump connected to the well. During routine checks, they noticed a snapped electrical wire and soon found the cub lying near the motor, apparently electrocuted.
Forest officials arrived at the scene, and a postmortem was carried out to confirm the cause of death.
