Lokayukta raid reveals mismanagement at Pilikula Nisargadhama
A surprise inspection led by the Karnataka Lokayukta’s Mangaluru division on Friday has brought to light a string of administrative lapses at Pilikula Nisargadhama. The unannounced check was carried out by Deputy Superintendents of Police Gana P Kumar and Suresh Kumar P, along with Inspectors Bharathi J and Chandrashekhar KN, and their team.
Acting Superintendent of Police, Kumarachandra, revealed that multiple discrepancies were discovered within the Pilikula Development Authority’s operations. While the zoo within the campus brings in substantial income, little to no investment has been made towards its upkeep or enhancement.
The visiting officials noticed that the workforce is paid poorly, with no access to health insurance or medical coverage. This neglect has raised questions about the authority’s prioritisation of employee welfare.
Further scrutiny revealed that although a directive had been issued to hand over the zoo’s management to the Forest Department, the authority in charge has deliberately delayed the process. This non-compliance hints at possible administrative resistance.
Another major concern raised during the inspection was the failure to collect dues from organisations that have been allotted land within the premises on lease. Additionally, flaws and irregularities were identified in the manner tenders were handled.
Authorities are now compiling the findings, which will be forwarded to the central Lokayukta office for further action. The probe aims to hold responsible parties accountable and push for systemic reforms.
