Mangaluru: The District Mahila Congress organized a protest near the Congress office at Mallikatte in response to BJP MLC N. Ravikumar’s alleged offensive remarks directed at Karnataka’s Chief Secretary, Mrs. Shalini Rajneesh.
During the demonstration, party workers raised slogans denouncing the BJP and voiced strong disapproval of the MLC’s statements. Protestors accused Ravikumar of undermining the dignity of a senior government official and sought immediate accountability.
Addressing the gathering, State Mahila Congress President Soumya Reddy took a firm stand, demanding the resignation of MLC Ravikumar. She emphasized that such disrespect towards a high-ranking woman officer could not be tolerated and called for strict action.
She further remarked that public servants like the Chief Secretary, who have upheld integrity and commitment, must be protected from political insult and harassment. Soumya Reddy insisted that misogynistic and politically motivated comments have no place in a democracy and urged BJP leaders to take responsibility.
The protest highlighted the growing discontent among women’s groups and civil society members who see the MLC’s remarks as part of a broader pattern of disrespect towards women in leadership.
The Mahila Congress vowed to continue its agitation until Ravikumar is held accountable either through resignation or legal consequence. The demonstration ended with a call to uphold dignity in public discourse and safeguard bureaucratic institutions from political interference.
