Mangaluru Police have achieved the largest drug seizure in Karnataka’s history, confiscating over 37 kg of MDMA valued at ₹75 crore and arresting two South African nationals in Bengaluru. This significant breakthrough was reported on Sunday by officials.
The breakthrough came from an arrest made six months ago, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal shared in a press conference. In September, police detained Haider Ali in Pumpwell, Mangaluru, seizing 15 grams of MDMA from him.
Further investigation led to the capture of a Nigerian national named Peter, who was apprehended in Bengaluru with MDMA worth ₹6 crore. This discovery linked the investigation to an international drug cartel operating through air routes connecting Delhi and Bengaluru.
The Mangaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB), acting on intelligence, arrested two South African suspects, Bamba Fant (31) and Abigail Adonis (30), as they arrived in Bengaluru on March 14. They were detained in Neeladri Nagar, Electronic City, and MDMA was found concealed in their trolley bags, along with four mobile phones, passports, and ₹18,000 in cash.
Authorities suspect that these individuals were supplying drugs to Nigerian traffickers in Bengaluru and other regions. Additionally, they are believed to have been using fake passports and visas. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the global drug trafficking network.
