The Uppinangady Police have arrested Abdul Saleem, a 35-year-old resident of Kalejibail Puthila Post in Belthangady Taluk, for allegedly transporting ganja in an auto rickshaw. The arrest took place on Thursday at Bollara, a village in the 34th Nekkilady area of Puttur Taluk, during a routine vehicle inspection.
Sub-Inspector Avinash H, along with his team, was conducting vehicle checks on National Highway 75 when they signaled an auto rickshaw traveling from Bantwal towards Uppinangady to stop for inspection. However, the driver ignored the signal and attempted to flee. The police surrounded him, and he was apprehended after attempting to escape on foot. Upon questioning, the driver identified himself as Abdul Saleem and confessed to carrying ganja.
A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 1.5 kg of ganja, with an estimated value of Rs 15,000. Saleem further admitted that Naushad, an acquaintance, had given him the marijuana to sell in Uppinangady. Saleem was arrested, and a case was filed under Sections 8(c), 20(b) ii(B), 27(b) of the NDPS Act and Section 3(5) of BNS. The ganja and the accused were taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
