Byndoor, Jun 3: In a distressing incident, Pradeep, a resident of Uppunda, fell victim to a job fraud, losing over 3 lakhs on May 27. The scam began when Pradeep encountered an Instagram advertisement for a part-time job claiming to be a certified partner of Amazon and Flipkart. The fraudster, identified as Ashwathama, contacted Pradeep via WhatsApp, asking about his qualifications. He then sent a link and instructed Pradeep to recharge Rs 200 through PhonePe, promising a return of Rs 480.
Trusting the fraudster, Pradeep followed the instructions and continued to send money, hoping for substantial returns. Starting with Rs 200, he transferred increasingly larger sums to various accounts provided by the scammer. By the evening of May 28, Pradeep had transferred a total of Rs 3,91,580.
When Pradeep checked his bank account, he realized no money had been credited back and that he had been deceived. He promptly filed a complaint at the Byndoor police station, alleging that Ashwathama had manipulated him into transferring the money. The police are actively investigating the case to apprehend the accused and recover the lost funds.
