MangaluruA 45-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly roaming the streets with a sword and intimidating the public in Dakshina Kannada district, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon in the Bolwar locality of Puttur Kasba village, creating panic among local residents.

Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Puttur Town Police Station swiftly responded and arrived at the scene. With support from nearby residents, the man was subdued and detained without further incident, police reported.

The suspect has been identified as Raju, a native of Hassan district, currently residing in Bantwal. Authorities said he was allegedly threatening bystanders while openly displaying the weapon.

Following his arrest, a case has been filed at Puttur Town Police Station under the Indian Arms Act along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police added.

Law enforcement has assured the public that strict action will be taken against anyone endangering community safety. The motive behind the suspect’s actions is currently being investigated.

This incident has once again raised concerns about illegal possession of weapons and public safety in the region.
