In a horrifying act near Koriyar in Kodimbal, a man allegedly attempted to murder his brother by pouring petrol on him and setting him on fire along a railway track. The victim, Hanumappa, sustained critical burn injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.
The accused, Ningappa, has been taken into custody by Kadaba police. Both brothers, originally from Gadag, were employed in Puttur and had been travelling with their sister on a passenger train earlier that day. Upon getting off at Bajakare station, Ningappa is said to have lured Hanumappa around 500 meters from the station before allegedly carrying out the brutal assault.
Locals rushed to the scene after hearing the victim’s cries and immediately alerted the police. The crime, having occurred on railway premises, may be transferred to the Railway Police for further investigation.
Authorities are yet to determine the motive behind the attack. A probe is underway to uncover the circumstances leading up to the attempted murder.
