Mangala swimming pool to reopen soon after repairs
Mangaluru’s Mangala Swimming Pool, the only facility under the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), is set to reopen within two weeks after nearly four months of closure for repairs. The pool was shut in August to address leakages caused by tree root damage to its peripheral chambers.
Approximately 90% of the repair work, including pipeline and tile replacements, has been completed. The pool, built in 1987, features a length of 50 meters, a width of 15 meters, and a depth ranging from 4 feet to 16 feet. It holds 25 lakh liters of water and is equipped with an ozonisation plant for water quality maintenance.
MCC Chief Whip Premanand Shetty confirmed that the reopening decision will be finalized soon, following an inspection by MCC Commissioner Anand CL. The pool is a vital resource for the city’s swimmers, offering free access to state and national-level participants, with affordable fees for others—Rs 30 per hour for students and Rs 50 per hour for adults.
Upgraded with an ozonisation plant in 2019 at a cost of Rs 98 lakh, the facility ensures better water quality and reduced maintenance costs, promising a better experience for users upon reopening.
