On Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Catholic Diocese of Mangalore united in faith as thousands of Catholics participated in a grand Eucharistic procession to mark the Feast of the Epiphany. Starting at Milagres Church and culminating at Rosario Cathedral, the event was a profound testament to the community’s devotion and spiritual unity.
The celebration began with a solemn Eucharistic Mass at Milagres Church, presided over by Bishop Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha. In his homily, Bishop Saldanha reflected on the journey of the Magi, emphasizing its relevance to modern spiritual lives. “The Magi’s search for the truth is a journey of hope—a hope fulfilled in Jesus, the true light of the world,” he said. He urged the faithful to embrace Christ as the ultimate truth and share His light with others, making the Epiphany not just a revelation but a mission.
The Eucharistic procession that followed was a blend of spirituality and solemnity. The Blessed Sacrament was carried on an intricately adorned vehicle through key city locations, including Hampankatta, Clock Tower Circle, and Nehru Circle. Hymns of praise, accompanied by musical bands and choir groups, created a reverent atmosphere.
At Rosario Cathedral, the congregation gathered for adoration and a reflective sermon by Rev. Fr Victor D’Mello, who linked the Year of Jubilee 2025 theme, “Hope Does Not Disappoint Us,” to the sustaining power of the Eucharist. He encouraged participants to be sources of hope amid life’s challenges.
The event concluded with heartfelt gratitude from Bishop Saldanha to the organizers and volunteers, celebrating the community’s faith and unity.
