Mangaluru: The Mangalore Taluk Quarterly KDP (Karnataka Development Program) meeting was held on Tuesday at the Taluk Panchayat Hall under the chairmanship of Dr. Bharat Shetty Y, MLA of Mangalore City North Assembly Constituency. The meeting brought together officials from various departments, village administration officers, and Panchayat development officers to discuss key developmental and welfare issues in the Taluk. Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Mahesh Holla and Mangalore Taluk Tahsildar Ramesh Babu were also present.Health and Disease Control
The Health Department outlined strategies for the effective control and prevention of malaria and dengue, with the goal of making Mangalore city free from these vector-borne diseases. Awareness campaigns and preventive measures were emphasised to safeguard public health.
AYUSH and Horticulture
The AYUSH Department reported on the total number of patients admitted to departmental hospitals and the status of ongoing building projects.
The Horticulture Department discussed creating awareness among farmers about crop insurance, compensation for crop loss, and new agricultural techniques, including beekeeping, oilseed cultivation, and palm oil crops.
Agriculture and Backward Classes Welfare
The Agriculture Department focused on the provision of seeds, paddy cultivation, agricultural equipment at subsidised rates, and promoting organic farming. They also reiterated the importance of crop insurance and compensation methods.
The Backward Classes Welfare Department highlighted the shortage of hostels, timely payment of government subsidies to orphanages, and construction of department-owned hostel buildings to reduce reliance on rented facilities. Concerns were raised regarding non-allocation of development grants for Scheduled Caste colonies in the Mangalore City North Assembly Constituency.
Animal Husbandry and Forestry
The Animal Husbandry Department reviewed the progress of vaccination programs, the prevalence of rabies due to stray dog bites, and workshops for farmers new to dairy farming.
The Forestry Department provided information on programs aimed at protecting sea turtles that come to lay eggs on the beach, ensuring safe hatching and release into the sea.
Women, Child Welfare, and Education
The Women and Child Welfare Department discussed sanctioned vacancies, Anganwadi enrollment, regular attendance, and operations in department-owned buildings. The functioning of the District Child Protection Unit was also reviewed.
The Education Department addressed school enrollment, timely distribution of textbooks, and additional support for students lagging in learning to improve their academic performance.
Nutrition and Labour Welfare
The Akshara Dasoha programme was evaluated, focusing on the quality and quantity of milk, midday meals, eggs, and bananas provided to students.
The Labour Department highlighted the deployment of mobile units to monitor the health of construction workers at their workplaces.
Dairy, Water, and Electricity
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) reported a slight increase in milk collection and discussed strategies to sustain this growth.
Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation officials highlighted issues in Jal Jeevan Mission water supply and pledged to coordinate with Panchayats to ensure uninterrupted delivery to households.
MESCOM matters were addressed, including the timely payment of pending electricity bills by Panchayats to avoid interest charges and ensure smooth electricity services.
