Mangalore University (MU) has revised its ranking system under the New Education Policy (NEP). Vice-Chancellor PL Dharma announced the new guidelines during the fourth general academic council meeting held on Tuesday.

Key Changes in the Ranking System

  • Eligibility: Ranks will be awarded only to students who secure an ‘A’ grade and above.

  • Tie-breaker rule: If multiple students achieve the same percentage, they will be awarded the same rank.

  • Exclusions:

    • Autonomous colleges and Distance Education Mode programs will not be included in rank declarations.

  • Revaluation Consideration: Ranks will be declared only after the completion of revaluation results to ensure fairness.

  • Implementation: The new policy, approved by statute, applies from the 2023-24 academic year.

  • Pension Disbursed to Retired MU Staff

    VC Dharma also announced that pensions for retired teaching and non-teaching staff of MU have been released.

    • Beneficiaries include:

    • 4 retirees (2021-22)

  • 5 retirees (2022-23)

  • 24 retirees (2023-24)

  • MU expressed gratitude to the Karnataka government for sanctioning the funds.

  • Heartfulness Chair for Spiritual Studies

    MU plans to establish a ‘Heartfulness Chair’, supported by the Sahaj Marg Spirituality Foundation, Mysuru.

    • Focus: Spiritual studies, research, publications, and awareness programs on moral and spiritual values.

  • Activities: National & international seminars, discourses, and public meetings on spirituality.
