Mangaluru: The Mangalore University Syndicate has leveled serious allegations against Vice-Chancellor PL Dharma, accusing him of stalling the inquiry into irregularities linked to excess recruitment. Dissatisfied syndicate members have resolved to escalate the matter by submitting complaints to the Governor of Karnataka as well as other relevant authorities.
The controversy surfaced in the Legislative Council on Monday, when MLC Manjunath Bhandary raised concerns about the university’s functioning, including the alleged mass appointments. Reports suggest that the large-scale recruitment drive has created a heavy financial burden on the institution, which is now being interpreted as a misuse of administrative powers. In response, the government has already directed that suitable action be taken.
After extensive discussions, the syndicate had formed its own committee to investigate the matter. However, Vice-Chancellor Dharma unexpectedly halted the process, contending that only a government-appointed team would be authorized to handle the probe.
“This looks like an effort to shield those accountable for lapses in the earlier administration,” remarked syndicate member Raghuraj, who also serves on the investigation committee. Members further alleged that the VC, without issuing any official notification, recently informed them verbally that the university-level committee should not move forward until the state panel arrives on campus.
Attempts to reach Vice-Chancellor PL Dharma for his comments remained unsuccessful.
