Mangalore: In a move to boost biodiversity and enhance visitor experiences, Pilikula Biological Park in Mangalore will soon welcome a South American penguin from Mumbai’s Byculla Zoo. This transfer is part of a broader animal exchange programme, which will see a marsh crocodile from Pilikula being sent to Byculla Zoo in return.
Penguins, native to the Southern Hemisphere, are well adapted to cold, snowy climates and are proficient in both aquatic and terrestrial environments. The introduction of a penguin to Pilikula aims to create a suitable environment that caters to their specific habitat needs.
To support this initiative, the park will seek assistance from donors and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, alongside expert guidance to ensure the penguin’s well-being. The director of Pilikula Biological Park expressed optimism about the project, noting that the arrival of the penguin is expected to attract more visitors and boost tourism.
This initiative is set to enrich the park’s biodiversity while offering a unique attraction for wildlife enthusiasts and families.
