Mangaluru: Father Muller Medical College Hospital marked a significant milestone in advanced dermatological care with the blessing and commissioning of the Stellar M22 laser platform by Lumenis. The state-of-the-art multi-application system, installed at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, is the first of its kind in Mangaluru, expanding the scope of advanced skin and aesthetic treatments in the region.
The new platform was blessed and inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions. The ceremony was attended by administrators, faculty members, consultants, and invited guests, reflecting the institution’s continued commitment to integrating cutting-edge global technology into patient care.
Leadership reflections and institutional vision
Addressing the gathering after the blessing, Fr. Faustine expressed gratitude for the opportunity to introduce such advanced technology for the benefit of patients. He acknowledged the support of the vendor in making the acquisition possible at a reasonable cost and noted that the institution’s steady upgradation of facilities is driven by a patient-centred vision.
He emphasised that the wide-ranging capabilities of the Stellar M22 would not only enhance patient confidence but also strengthen the clinical expertise of the Department of Dermatology, positioning it at the forefront of modern dermatological practice in the coastal region.
Mr. Navdeep Sharma, Country Manager – India & South Asia, Lumenis, described the commissioning as a meaningful moment, noting that it was the first Lumenis machine in India to be blessed in 2026. He also highlighted that the date coincided with the 61st birthday of the company’s Regional President, Mr. Qiying Zhai, who facilitated approval of the acquisition. He conveyed his best wishes to the institution, expressing hope that many patients would benefit from the technology.
Advanced technology for comprehensive care
The Stellar M22 by Lumenis is a globally recognised, versatile, multi-application platform engineered to treat over 30 skin conditions with high precision and minimal downtime. Its installation in Mangaluru significantly enhances access to advanced dermatological and aesthetic procedures locally.
The platform integrates four advanced technologies — IPL, ResurFX, Nd:YAG, and Q-Switched — delivering targeted and customised solutions for a wide range of indications, including:
- Pigmentation and sun damage: Treatment of age spots, freckles, and melasma
- Acne scars and skin texture: Non-ablative resurfacing for deep scars and fine lines
- Vascular lesions: Management of rosacea, spider veins, and birthmarks
- Skin rejuvenation: Improvement in tone, texture, and overall complexion
By combining multiple modalities within a single system, the platform enables dermatologists to provide comprehensive, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
Academic engagement and capacity building
In line with its academic mandate, Father Muller Medical College has organised a focused academic programme in connection with the commissioning of the new system. A two-day hands-on workshop (February 13–14) is being conducted to provide practical training on the clinical applications of the Stellar M22 for residents and consultant dermatologists.
This will be followed by a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on February 15 titled “Recent Advances in Laser Dermatology,” highlighting emerging technologies and evolving standards in aesthetic and clinical dermatology.
Dr. Udhav Patil, a renowned plastic surgeon from DY Patil University with 25 years of experience using Lumenis systems, has been associated with the programme and will share his expertise during the workshop and CME sessions.
