Mangaluru International Airport received a bomb threat email on November 30 at around 10 a.m., officials revealed. Sent from the ID “Akram Vaikar,” the email claimed a bomb was planted on the premises, prompting an extensive search by CISF personnel and airport staff. No explosives were found.
A case was filed at Bajpe Police Station, and an investigation has begun. The email reportedly demanded the withdrawal of charges against expelled DMK leader Jaffer Sadiq, arrested for alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking network, and Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, a film producer and wife of Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin. It also called for the release of S Maran, Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA) leader, serving a 10-year sentence in Trichy Central Jail for the 1997 Andimadam Police Station attack.
Authorities noted similarities with an October 25 bomb threat targeting three hotels in Tirupati, which also cited Sadiq and Kiruthiga. The recurrence of Tamil Nadu-related demands has raised suspicions of connections to individuals from the state.
While investigators are exploring links between the two threats, officials have intensified security at the airport. This incident underscores the growing challenge of addressing cyber threats and ensuring public safety amid increasing instances of such hoaxes.
