Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has recorded an impressive feat by surpassing its property tax collection target for 2024-25 by a margin of ₹23.2 crore, thanks to a series of proactive administrative efforts.
This financial year, MCC collected a total of ₹138.2 crore from around 2.2 lakh properties, marking an 18% increase compared to ₹117 crore in 2023-24. The last 45 days alone contributed ₹37.2 crore, helping MCC go beyond the government-set target of ₹115 crore.
Much of this success is credited to the Self-Assessment System (SAS) campaign launched in February. According to Akshatha K, deputy commissioner (revenue), MCC deployed mobile awareness vehicles across all 60 wards, urging property owners to pay their dues promptly.
Alongside the on-ground awareness drive, digital reminders were sent to defaulters with the support of Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL). MCC’s revenue officials also followed up with phone calls and personal visits, further boosting compliance.
The civic body also incentivized early payments by offering a 5% discount for those who paid their taxes in April. With property tax being a major revenue source, this year’s strong performance sets a new benchmark in urban fiscal management.
