In a decisive move to beautify the city and curb environmental hazards, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has banned plastic flex banners effective March 15, warning of heavy fines and license cancellations for repeat violators.

During a recent meeting, MCC strictly informed banner printers that plastic flexes would no longer be allowed, with violations leading to immediate penalties. Fabric banners are permitted but only in designated areas and with prior approval.

The MCC has already removed over 200 plastic flex banners and more than 100 fabric banners. Unauthorized installations at major city junctions like KPT, Nanthoor, and Pumpwell are being targeted in a mass clearance drive.

Despite the ban, political banners continue to surface, with printers facing pressure from influential politicians. From March 15 onward, new plastic banners will attract a ₹2,000 fine, while repeat violators risk losing their trade licenses.

The MCC remains firm in its stance, with Deputy Commissioner Akshata reaffirming a full-scale cleanup drive to make Mangaluru a flex-free city.
