In a tragic incident at Vazco Resort in Mangaluru, three final-year engineering students from Mysuru—Nishita (21), Parvati S (20), and Keerthana (21)—lost their lives in the resort’s swimming pool by drowning on November 17. The victims had checked in on November 16 for a weekend stay.

The police have arrested Manohar, the resort owner, and Bharath, the manager, on charges of negligence. The incident unfolded when Nishita, who was unable to swim, entered the pool and began struggling. Parvati attempted to save her, but both girls started drowning. Keerthana then jumped in to help, but tragically, all three girls drowned.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal revealed that CCTV footage showed the victims calling for help, yet none of the seven resort employees on duty intervened. This lack of response is now under investigation.

In response to the tragedy, Rashmi SR, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department, announced that stricter safety guidelines will be issued for resorts and homestays, particularly those with swimming pools or beach access. New regulations will require resorts to have lifeguards and proper safety measures in place.

The investigation continues as authorities work to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents.
