Mangaluru: A complaint has been registered at the Bajpe police station following the circulation of a misleading photo and voice clip on social media, falsely suggesting that armed bikers were roaming the streets.
Muhammad Suhail, a resident of Surathkal, filed the complaint after discovering that a photo of him and a friend riding a bike toward Moodbidri was shared online with a false narrative. According to Suhail, someone had deliberately photographed him while he was holding an aquarium stone and an e-cigarette during the ride.
The image, along with a fabricated audio message, was reportedly uploaded to the Instagram page “Karavali Tigers.” The post falsely alleged that “bikers carrying swords” were spotted, triggering public concern and risking communal unrest.
Suhail asserted that the content was not only baseless but also designed to provoke tension, and called for strong legal measures against those managing the social media account involved in the spread of misinformation.
In response, Mangaluru City Police issued a public statement clarifying that the viral photo and voice recording were misleading. Officials confirmed that no swords were involved, and the items seen in the picture were an aquarium stone and an e-cigarette.
Authorities have now initiated an investigation into the source of the false post and are tracking those responsible for attempting to disrupt communal harmony through misinformation.
