Mangaluru– In the lead-up to the International Day of Yoga on June 21, over 60,000 residents across Dakshina Kannada are being trained in various yoga practices. The initiative is being coordinated by the District AYUSH Department, led by Dr. Mohammed Iqbal, in collaboration with local administration, AYUSH colleges, and multiple yoga institutions.

Public yoga sessions are being facilitated by Ayushman health centres, wellness colleges, and community yoga groups throughout the district. The aim is to encourage mass participation and raise awareness about the physical and mental health benefits of regular yoga.

As part of the Yoga Harit campaign, environmental clean-up drives and tree plantation activities are being held alongside yoga events, promoting both ecological and personal well-being.

Meanwhile, under the Yoga Park programme, a medicinal herb garden has been developed at the Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Balkunje, where daily yoga instruction is open to the public.

The district is also promoting Y-Break Yoga, an initiative focused on teaching short yoga routines and breathing techniques that can be practiced by individuals while seated at work. This 5-minute wellness break aims to help employees reduce stress and improve workplace energy, said Dr. Iqbal.

Additionally, through the Yoga Unplugged campaign, competitions are being organized in schools and colleges to engage youth and spread awareness about the long-term benefits of incorporating yoga into daily life.
