Mangaluru Mayor Sudheer Shetty announced a strict implementation of a rule banning all excavation and construction works within municipal limits until September to prevent potential disasters. The directive has also been brought to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner. Speaking at the Corporation on Wednesday, the Mayor emphasized the urgency of this measure.

“Three executive engineers have been tasked with identifying areas where retaining walls have weakened and where new walls are needed. Junior engineers will inspect these dilapidated areas and take temporary stabilization measures using sandbags. Clear instructions have been given to avoid potential dangers,” stated the Mayor.

Additionally, the Mayor addressed the recent collapse of a retaining wall built for the Netravathi River Front Project. An inspection has been conducted, and the area is under status quo due to an ongoing case in the National Green Tribunal (NGT), with a hearing scheduled for August 2. The Mayor expressed confidence that the verdict would favor the Corporation.
