Mangaluru: History-Sheeter Arrested in Mosque Gunfire Case
Mangaluru: Police have apprehended 35-year-old Badruddin, alias Addu, in connection with a gunfire incident that injured Safwan, a religious leader from the Edurupadavu Mosque. The arrest was made by Mangaluru Rural Police on January 9.
The incident occurred on January 6 in a shop at Second Bazaar, Vamanjoor. Initially, it was reported as an accidental firing while Safwan was inspecting the firearm. However, subsequent investigations revealed a different story.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal disclosed that the bullet was fired from Badruddin’s illegally acquired weapon. Attempts were made to mislead the probe, with claims that the gun belonged to Bhaskar Bajpe. Safwan’s inconsistent statements raised further suspicion, suggesting he might have tried to shield the accused.
The illegal firearm was reportedly procured by Imran, who bought it from a contact in Kerala and passed it to Badruddin the day before the shooting. Authorities are now probing Safwan’s motives for providing misleading information and are collecting accounts from witnesses present during the incident.
The police have assured a comprehensive investigation to uncover the full details surrounding the case.
