Mangaluru’s young book lovers now have a special space to share their passion through the Junior Bookaholics platform. The idea emerged from the Bookaholics Mangalore group, with Srinivasan Nandagopal, moderator of Bookaholics Junior, recognizing the need for a children’s platform. Drawing on his 15 years of experience with the Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL), he created this initiative to inspire budding readers and writers.

Bookaholics Junior welcomes children aged five to 16, with most participants between 10 and 13. The group gathers every second Sunday at CIL’s Life Skills Hub in Mallikatte, where children present book reviews, explore various genres, and learn critical analysis of literature. Nandagopal emphasizes the importance of understanding the author, genre, and context to deepen their literary appreciation.

To further enhance skills, roles like quizmaster and master of ceremonies have been introduced, providing public speaking opportunities. The meetings are currently free, with plans to add more structure. Young authors, such as Shinead Fernandes, also share insights into writing and publishing, expanding the children’s understanding of the literary world.

The initiative encourages participants to reduce screen time and engage more with books, from classics like Enid Blyton to contemporary authors like Amish Tripathi.
