Mangaluru man accused of sedative rape, blackmail, and threats
A case has been registered against a man accused of raping a woman by spiking her drink with sedatives and blackmailing her using a recorded video of the act. Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal detailed the events leading to the case.
The accused, identifying himself as Mohammed Shafin, initially helped the survivor when her car broke down on July 21. Gaining her trust, he stayed in touch and later assisted her in getting her refrigerator repaired on August 1. On the same day, Shafin allegedly gave her a sedative-laced juice, assaulted her while she was unconscious, and recorded the act.
Shafin used the video to blackmail the survivor, repeatedly sexually assaulting her under the threat of making the footage public. He also issued life-threatening warnings, including an acid attack staged to appear self-inflicted. Shafin seized her car, which the survivor later found at his apartment in Deralakatte on October 25. There, Shafin’s brother, Mohammed Shiyab, allegedly threatened her, tried to assault her, and claimed Shafin had fled to Dubai.
On October 27, Shafin reportedly entered the survivor’s house and stole ₹62,000 from her bag. The survivor filed a complaint on November 26.
The Mangaluru East Police have registered cases under multiple IPC sections and the IT Act. Investigations are underway, and the accused remain at large.
