Mangaluru: The revenue department of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has launched a special operation to eliminate unauthorized flex banners from various parts of the city.

Officials were actively seen removing these illegal banners from key locations such as KPT, Pumpwell, Nanthoor, and several other prominent areas. The rampant installation of such banners has become a major concern, obstructing traffic flow and reducing visibility at crucial junctions, posing risks for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The MCC had been receiving multiple complaints regarding the proliferation of these banners in vital city spots. Responding to public concerns, authorities have prioritized the removal of commercial and congratulatory banners, while religious banners remain exempt from this crackdown.

Additionally, officials noted that some locations featured illuminated commercial banners connected to the power grid. To ensure a safe removal process, MCC has requested the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) to disconnect the electricity supply to these displays before they are taken down.

An MCC official emphasized the need for sustained efforts, stating, “More such drives should be conducted regularly, with stringent measures to curb the unauthorized installation of flex banners.”

The MCC urges citizens and businesses to refrain from putting up illegal banners and to seek proper permissions for advertisements to maintain the city’s aesthetic and ensure road safety.
