Mankal S Vaidya, the Minister of Fisheries, Ports, and Inland Water Transport, inspected the ongoing construction of the Kulai jetty near Surathkal on Saturday. Mangaluru City North MLA Y Bharath Shetty highlighted the necessity of the jetty for traditional fishing boats in addition to mechanized ones. The minister gathered detailed information from officials of the New Mangalore Port Authority regarding the progress and specifications of the project.
During his visit, Minister Vaidya engaged with local fishermen to understand their needs and concerns. He emphasized that the jetty should cater to both traditional and mechanized boats, ensuring its utility for the entire fishing community. The MLA reinforced the importance of making the jetty an all-weather, safe facility for fishermen.

He suggested increasing the height of the breakwaters on the north and south sides to better protect the jetty from harsh weather conditions.
